Tübingen is a university town in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany. Surrounded by forested hills and overlooking the Neckar River, Tübingen is home to one of the few completely intact Altstädte (old town centers) in Germany. Crowning the valley is Hohentübingen Castle, built in 1037 and expanded during the Renaissance. Besides the spectacular views and architectural significance, the castle is home to the Ancient Culture Museum and its display of artifacts dating back 40,000 years.
